Update On Mazuri Trial Feeding

Dillybird Mar 25, 2007 04:29 PM

In a recent thread on dry foods, I told of my two 3.5 year old Desert Torts, who I had tried to get to eat Zeigler Bros. Monster Tortoise Diet, to supplement their major diet of grazing, with a few store-bought greens thrown in in the winter. They HATE Monster Diet, and can detect and avoid the finest particles of it, even mixed in their favorite greens. But a friend who has three of their siblings recently tried Mazuri on hers, and they loved it. So I ordered a small package on eBay. It got here yesterday, and I got out a few pieces and soaked them, and put them in a dish, whole. Both torts immediately fell on it as if they hadn't been fed in years- no sniffing, no test bites- just straight to gobbling it down until the plate was clean. I am amazed.

All tortoises that I have tried it with ate the Mazuri like they were starving.
I would still only use it as a substitute food, natural graze for the vast majority of food.

I should have said supplemental food - not substitute food.
Again natural graze is a far better day to day food but a little Mazuri occasionally probably won't hurt & the torts do seem to enjoy it.
