My Leo never leaves his warm end hide

merchantmarine Mar 25, 2007 06:27 PM

I bought a new leo about 2 months ago and it's the first one I have owned. I followed all the directions given to me by the pet store and I have a warm end and a cool end hide in the tank.
Is it a problem that he never leaves the hide during the day to bask in the heat lamp? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey dont be fretting about your leo. Mine seem to never leave the middle cave. I have a warm, medium and cool spots in my tank. (20 Gallon long) During the day the two usually sleep in the middle, where under the tank is situated. And the other leo is under the hot spot because it cant fit in the cave. But under the hot spot is about 90 degress. In the middle about 85 and the cool is about 80. As long as your leo is feeding properly it should be fine. Oh and how long have you had your leos in the tank for? If they have been in the tank less then 2 weeks you prob should handle them because they become stressed out from the new enviornment.
Right=Hot, Left= Cool, Middle=Medium

Temps? Humidity? Substrate?

Sand is not a good substrate for leos. Adults i will say ok, but i wouldn't feed them on the sand and it can not be calci sand as that should not even be for sale.
