egg bound?

dynomite Aug 12, 2003 09:09 PM

i have a female bearded dragon which i keep in an outdoor cage (heated w/ shade, hot end cold end, basking spot, the works 5X2X5) anyway lately she's been l;osing weight still eating but losing weight (but still not her energy and spunk) when she was young she was attacked by a larger male and so she is now severly deformed as a result, so this might have something to do w/ it, she also had her growth stunted bc of this. she is really skinny and i am concerned about her, she is my favorite beardy. i hope this is making at least some sense, but the thing is io think i felt some eggs, to be honest im not sure when as i have been really busy the last couple months w/ various things, so i am not sure if they are or are not overdue, bt i think they are. which is cool cuz i actually thought she wouldnt be able to breed b/c of the growth stunt thing. anyways i would like to know what you guys think... if i should take her to a vet asap or if there is a home treatment, feeding recomendations (i have been feeding her more waxworms for the fat content, but she is too small for pinkies) anything is really appreciated, i knopw if i do the right things she will pull through, she is a survivor. she is still very active and i see her climbing to the top of the tree or hanging on the walls.
thanx a lot

has she started digging? is there a place for her to dig?
when she is ready to lay eggs, you will see bumps in her body and be able to feel them. digging is the big clue.

no i havent seen much digging other than the usuall little ditches they sleep in. she has two feet of playsand/dirt mixture for her if she wants to dig. but what i am concerned about is the rapid weight loss. i will admit for about a month all i did was drop in the food i was unable to monitor them, she may not have gotten to it or something. i was spending all of my free time w/ my grandmother as she was in a bad situation and most of us had our doubts about her being able to survive the results of her injury. now that she is all better i went outside to check em out and she is EXTREMELY skinny. i don't know if she is eggbound, to be honest i dont know the side effects of it either.

Beardies lay eggs about 3 weeks after bred. If she is skinny, I would think you would be able to see eggs. I think she should see a vet and take a fecal sample with you too. Instead of trying to fatten her up, find out what the cause of her weight loss is.
Is it possible she could have already layed eggs in her enclosure?
Is she with a male all the time? That alone can be stressful to a female.
