Building a setup

kaysie Mar 25, 2007 10:26 PM

Has anyone ever used plywood/OSB/MDF to build a tank? What were the results? Are there any 'fumes' or anything I should be worried about after building?

MDF actually has toxins within the dust and layers that are harmfull to people and animals, OSB would be a PRIME candidate for a mite problem if you were to ever get an infestation. Plywood as long as it was not cedar or pine could probably be used but it MUST be sealed with a safe sealent maybe a water based polyurethane? Even then you would heve to do the research.

My husband just built one for me and we used melamine, Used xtreme's Plans. And I am very pleased with it. It is very heavy but works well, all the snakes seem happy.

Post a link to your plans. Gonna attempt it w/ melamine tileboard.

Feb 6th I believe the topic was what racks do you use? Somthing close to that..

Heat Mar 26, 2007 06:48 PM

Oh yeah. I'm still collecting info. Now the new heat cable idea came up. I have about 10 links to racks. 1 person posted pix of their tileboard racks, but their heat cords made me dizzy.

Er, that's why I'm here. It's difficult to research a topic when no one knows what you're talking about. The guys at Home Depot just look at me like I'm retarded.

So what else do you suggest?
