Elaphe porphyracea laticinta. Just ran across this snake on the internet. The price tag caught my eye, wow! Anyways, couldn't find any info about these on the net and curiousity has got the better of me. I'd like to know where these snakes come from any any other info you may know. Thanks alot.

Elaphe p. laticincta are from the Malaysian peninsula through the island of Sumatra. There are seven subspecies, and go by other common names such as ..."Bamboo Ratsnake","Red Mountain Ratsnake", "Black-banded Trinket Snake", "Broad-banded Mountain Ratsnake", and sometimes,"Red Mountain Racer"......they have a large range from India,Northern Burma, to Thailand, China, to far Yunnan province, to southeastern Tibet...The names "Tai Bamboo Ratsnake", and "Chinese Bamboo Ratsnakes" are commonly used for a few of the more known subspecies...........These snakes are very secretive, and thrive in a higher humidity than most other ratsnakes..........these species are usually reserved for the more experienced keeper..........................Doug

Thanks for the info, Doug. Any idea why the high price range?

Yes, .....they were only introduced to the hobby(U.S.anyway) very recently, are extremely pretty, and VERY rare in collections.....Supply and demand is what drives herpetoculture just like any other comodity.......they are truly gorgeous!
