Not a corn but first find of the year

jtclark Mar 26, 2007 04:21 PM

I was called outside at work today to check out another snake. I went out and found this little guy within 5 feet from another I found last fall. We may have hit a record high here in Indy today (80 degrees) and it has been really warm for almost a week. Hope this guy makes it Ok when temps drop again this weekend.

I didn't feel like getting musk so I didn't handle him, but he was jumping up trying to bite me when I was taking the pics. Seemed to be plenty feisty and healthy. Looks like this guy may have found a meal already too.

Here is the bigger one from last fall.

nice find, where in indy are you at? Im over on the southeast side, I don't get to find to much in my area and we never find them at work, most of what people call me outside to see are the giant spiders that end up being little wolf spiders lol. Anyway, thanks for posting! --Izora

I live on the southside as well(Greenwood), but found them both in Noblesville where my office is. Luckily I don't have to drive up there everyday. I kind of got lucky in that I was only in the office for about 10 minutes yessterday afternoon when this guy was spotted.

So how often do you hit the monthly show? I try to go every month just to look around, but it has been pretty hit and miss the last few months.

everytime I schedule myself off for a show, something always comes up, I didn't realize there was a monthly show, where is it at? I was referring to the reptile expo they had at that state fair awhile back. I had scheduled three days off, when those days came, I had scheduled the three days after the show off not the three days of the show. I was severely angry with myself then. I work in Greenwood and live over in Wanamaker. I would have thought at least in Wanamaker I'd have seen some sort of wild life, but the only thing I get to view occasionally around here, are raccoons, coyotes and squirrels!

There is the link for the show dates. It is at the fair grounds every month. There is usually one big show each year, but there are smaller ones every other month. You should check it out sometime.

It was 65 degrees at 7 am when I woke up. I took a dog walk in the woods and had my camera.

Wow, and I was pretty happy with my pics. Great shots! Where are you? Obviously the same type of snake.

I'm about 25 miles south of Chicago. I was told this type of Garter is T. s. semifasciatus.

I live in an unincorperated area. I take my dog for a walk in the woods every day of the week (it's great stress-relief) and always bring the camera. If you go out there 365 days a year, you're bound to see some cool stuff

And here is the very happy dog...she LOVES her walks!
