I'm New Here!

Hey guys and gals out there in skink land. My name is Dennis and I have been breeding and keeping exotics since I was about 4 years old. Im now 25 and still love it just as much now as I did then. I just recently got a BTS just a day ago because of its poor condition from the petstore. Its got a good weight on it just dehydrated and not red right. Now I"ve done my research on these guys but I still got a couple questions for you guys out there. One is, how old do you think a 8-9 inch 84gram BTS is? I know it all depends on feeding and all but is there a ball park figure someone could give me so I can put it in my records? Also what foods do yours guys seem to take to the most? I'm a produce manager so I never have an issues getting all the different veggies and fruits out there. I've tried so far a little kale, collard, little carrot, apple, grapes, some wet organic cat food. I know its only been a day but its touched none of it. I also keep the hot end at about 105 and the cool end is in the upper 70's. I also have a nice large water dish in there so it can go lay in the water dish if it feels like it. I also have a reptisun bulb across the whole cage with aspen bedding about 2.5-3 inches deep. Any advice I appreacite guys. Heres a pic from when I first got it home.

Your temps are fine.

size? 8-9 inches is pretty young...but I wouldnt want to guess on age. coming from a pet store, it may be stunted a bit.

what type of Bluey? Northern? Eastern? etc...

Foods? go to www.bluetongueskinks.net

they have the best food charts available.

Many times, babies will be shy about feeding time. Let him get a little hungry, and they will eat.

Hint: buy a cheap food chopper. chop the veggies up small so it sticks to the meatier portions. Blueys are a lot like humans...eating the stuff that is bad for us before our salads.

My staples:
Dandelion greens, summer squash, spaghetti squash is great.

I wish I knew what type it was. All it said was blue tounged skink. I was looking at the website you sent me and its kinda hard to tell since I am new at these guys which one it is. It ate a whole can of cat food with veggies the other day. Who knew something so small could knock down so much food. Ate right in front of me too. It still looks a little dry, should I be giving it baths everyday or should I just give it some time? I mean I have a very large water dish in there for it but it hasn't touched it or at least not that I've seen. Thanks in advance!

Dennis

Mine doesnt bathe at all...though a large enough bowl should be offered if he/she wants to.

I hope you bookmarked that site. Just register and post some pics in the forums there(or here) and we can tell ya what type it is. Most pet stores offer Northerns, Irian Jayan, or Indonesian.

Food? try for more veggies than meat. They will always eat the meat. try tricking them to the veggies by chopping up with meat portion.

I was wrong on the size, its 11 inches and now 98 grams, the day I got it, it was 84 grams. I know I've only had it for a couple days now but this is one awesome lizard. I wish I would of had one of these a long time ago. I hope you guys can tell me what type this one is, I would really like to know if possible.
