What Kind of Mouse?

Eimon Mar 26, 2007 05:03 PM

Has anyone here seen this before or know if it's a certain strain of mouse? Yes it is a white pupil (iris) with red globe.

it shows in both eyes, and it's definitely genetic as it's carried over in the offspring. What I don't know is if it's a simple recessive (single or double) or co-dom or what. One of these days I'll experiment with one of my other mouse strains to figure it out.

Type of mutant gene from the looks of it. The closest information I could find was this article:
Persistent Hyperplastic Primary Vitreous in Transgenic Mice Expressing IE180 of the Pseudorabies Virus

Thanks for digging that up! I suppose these could be decendants or culls from that study. The good thing is they produce litters like crazy. But I have noticed they are a bit more high strung than my regular albinos (Swiss Websters.) The eye mutation could easily account for that though. Thanks again.

A friend and I got ours direct from Harlan some years ago. They used to have a distibution center in So Cal, and we picked them up as "surplus." I think #1's go for about $4 now. Check and see if they might have one in or near your area.
