Hairy Bush Vipers: Slug Eaters:

Oxyrhopus Mar 26, 2007 05:39 PM

I was tease feeding these babies for a few meals in the last weeks. Finally I was able to find some tiny slugs and decided to separate the babies into small deli cups and put in a few slugs for each cup. Before I could get the second hispidus in a separate cup, the first ate 2 slugs in few seconds. I tried to capture this on camera but they suck the food down in a nanosecond. I mean they gulp down a slug so quick its quite incredible and if you blink, you miss it. There is not bite as its grab and swallow before the slug can manage to squirm away and they swallow and take the slug down to their bellies fast like. I will keep trying to capture a nab and drink down slug photo on camera. In the photo below, a baby hispidus is pursuing a slug and by the time my camera recharged, it was gone.

Pretty cool Dan!
In no time, you should be able to odor-manipulate slug slime to pinkies. And they should really take off!
