need help

mlove Mar 26, 2007 09:32 PM

I have two collareds that I believe are gravid. I desperately need help preparing the incubator. We bought a Hovabator, vermiculite and moss but I'm not sure how to set everything up. I also have little tupperware containers if needed. Can anyone please advise me on what I need to do? My first female displayed colors approx 1 month ago and is getting pretty big and lumpy in the stomach area. My second female started displaying colors about two weeks ago. She has always been a big girl so it's hard to be sure she is gravid. Please help.

Eve, I'm having trouble logging onto your web site. I have the new Vista program and since Vista does not have the bugs worked out I can't get into alot of sites...

Thanks Eve! You are a life saver. We lost all of our eggs last year and since this is the first time using a Hovabator I'm a little nervous. Approximately how long after the females start showing the mating colors should I expect them to lay eggs? We purchased our collareds gravid last year and as collared newbies we were suprised when we found eggs. This year I want to be prepared so we can save the babies. You are the best!

I know you are having problems going to peoples sites but try to use the link I will give at the bottom ,if you cna open it, scroll down to breeding/ egg laying questions.

If you can not open then let me know, and to answer your one question, about 22 -24 days after you see them breed the female will lay, some few days longer .

They usually stop eating soon before laying and will start digging.

Thank you for sending the link but my system still won't allow me to view your site. I get the error message that Windows is researching the problem and will get back with me when they find a solution. Yeah right... I have gotten the same message for a few months and have yet to hear back. I should have waited to get a new computer with the Vista program until they worked the bugs out. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Eve I just got it. The Hovabator is up and running. Now I need to start the nesting box (kinda did that backward). I'll pick up more sand in the morning. I just wish I could have seen them breeding. My one naturally plump girl fended the male off today pretty good. He gave it a good try but when he was refused it looked like he was pouting. I assumed my second female had already been bred.

With your help the nesting box and incubator is ready to go. My lumpy girl ate yesterday so maybe I have a little while before the eggs are laid. I'm going to pray it's not Wed-Sun during the day as I won't be home much. I also gave her a little pedialyte and she loved it. She is diging around the enclosure but it's not constant. The bad news is that she does not seem to be scratching in the nesting box.

Some pick their own place to lay no matter how nice the nest is you make them lol

Just pile a few inches of dampened sand in the corners /wherever you see her dig the most. It's tough being a lizard mom , hahahhaaa !

Tell me about it, I'm a wreck. I'm not getting anything done around the house because I keep staring at their enclosure to see if anything is happening. Each morning when I wake I run to the tank to see if they woke early to lay eggs. Naughty girls... I know as soon as I turn my back they are going to lay them.

No eggs yet but mom has not eaten for two days. Luckily she started hanging out in her nesting box yesterday so maybe I'll get lucky and she will lay them in there.
