ball python releasing air?

Lasergrl94 Mar 27, 2007 12:13 AM

Hi,

I have a 5 year old female ball python, about 2200 grams. I have only had her a month or so. I have noticed that a couple times a day she lets out a sound like releasing air in a long puff. I never heard this from any other young balls or the red tail I have had. It isnt a respiratory problem I dont think. Its like just blowing air. Anyone know what this is, why she is doing it?

My yearling does the same thing sometimes, usually when I'm opening the enclosure to take her out. I think it's a defense mechanism, even though she never puts up a fuss with handling.

No worries.

Hi ! What you are hearing is totally normal , It is do to the larger lung capacity then yearlings and when they exhale they will some times make a long steady hiss unlike the fast loud hisses when they are up set . And if you listen closely to smaller ones you can sometimes hear the same thing . Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue

I thought it sounded like a normal sound, but just didnt know why she would be doing it.
