What Do You Feed Your Alligator(s)

csreptiles Mar 27, 2007 12:18 AM

I am thinking of adding dog food to my gators diet other the Raw Chicks, Rats, and Beef Chunks, What do you think about feeding Alligators dog food as a supplement to there diet? And What do you feed your Alligator(s)?

If Dog food was a proper diet, then I think we would all be doing it. Don't. If you want a prepared commerical diet, try Mazuri Croc chow. You can purchase from www.Mazuri.com or you can sometimes get it from your local feed store. They come in Gel, large biscuits, and small biscuits (basically looks like dog kibble).

With all of the crap lately with dog food being tainted, I have seriously been thinking of introducing my little Yorkies to the mazuri croc chow! They are little scavengers and eat anything now as it is

Have them beefed up quick looking like Pit's ... LOL

Sorry chris answered my question, I got the idea from a video I seen and I thought it was dog food that the person feeder there gators. I had heard of this Mazuri Croc chow. and really was wondering about that more then dog food! Thanks Chris for correcting me!

Dog food has a lot of fillers such as corn and rice that would not normally be part of an alligator's diet. Not only is it nutritionally unsound, but can cause loose stools, too.

Hey Chick, I would not do the dog food. Dog food has as already mentioned has alot of fillers that are no good for the Gators but what has not been said is the Dog food has dyes in it that will make a gator sick. The Croc chow is the best way to go.

How is the big girl doing now?

Only my dog eats dog food. If you're asking me about my whopping gator, it's an evil little mean thing here at home. He's a working gator as part of an educational program and goes on the road frequently. I try to keep his stress level low at home, but I know it has an effect on him. He hisses so much and I'm not sure if it's "Back away from my territory" or "OH NO!, please don't take me to another classroom!" But he's a good ambassador for the alligator world, dispels a lot of myths, and teaches kids about gator safety and respect.

She is fine, I did get the Chow and she has been taking to it fine! I have both the bits, and I juts got the GEL today so I made my 1st batch for morning feeding tonight!

Thanks for the information. I was only asking because I thought I seen someone else feeding to what I thought was dog food. I have not found out that it was Mazuri Croc chow. I spent the last 30min on the phone with Carrie Kuball from Mazuri Zoo Nutritions. I found out what I wanted and I currently have both the Bits and the gel on it way!

Thanks everyone for all your help.
