Is there some kind of lubricant for removing dead skin off the toe?

xelda Aug 12, 2003 10:10 PM

I've already tried soaking him in a warm watery-paper towel humid hide for 2 1/2 hours, and then another time at 4 hours. It really stresses him out, so I don't want to have to soak him again.

Yes,
water, q-tip anda little pressure (little, not a lot) the moistened skin will come off if you gently rub it off with the q-tip.

You could try a product called "Shed-Aid." I'm not sure if it works. How long has the skin been on your leo's foot? Give it one more soak in warm water and use tweezers to pull off the skin gently. Hope this helps!

It was there ever since I got him (about a month and a half ago), so there are several layers of skin to work through. It's not covering his entire toe, only about 2.5 mm of it.

I thought after I soaked him it would come off in his next shed, but it just added another layer of skin. I've tried the Q-tip method, but it's too stuck on there.

When shed is left on, it constricts the digit causing it to die and blacken. Once you get that skin off, be prepared for some bleeding.

One of the females I just got in a trade had many layers stuck on. She doesn't have but 3 toes on her front feet anymore. I worked at it for a few days off an on so as not to overly stress her. And, every time I put her down, I put her in her water dish to make her walk through and soak that skin good. It seemed to help.

JJay is right soak them a while,I never do more than 20-30 min. Then rub the toe gently with a q-tip(wet). Get as much as you can off. Then let him back in his cage for a while, he might rub the rest off on his own. If not repeat the process.

Give him a nice 30 min soak in shallow warm water and when you take him out gently "roll" the skin off using your fingers. I usually place the toe(s) inbetween my thumb and pointer finger and roll it off with my thumb. I have honestly never even attempted to use a qtip or tweezers, just seems way to difficult to use on a squirming/discontent gecko (especially the tweezers)... I don't see any advantage.

You do need to get that skin off.
