Show me your granites!

loconorc Mar 27, 2007 02:08 PM

Anyone want to show off their granites? Nows the time! I plan on a granite female from Bob Clark. This would of couse be after college, when I have the time and money to care for any big herps I might get. I havent seen many granite owners, so lets see em!

Do people like the reduced pattern look more? The snakes still look gorgeous, but it kinda ruins the whole 'granite' thing in my opinion. Granites are the most beautiful burm morph, and I think people should breed for more spots. This same situation exists in crested geckos, where some animals have absolutely puny crests. Breeders need to pay attention to crest structure when the select pairings. I hope the 'crowned' cresteds become more popular, just as I do with normal granite burms. Anyone prefer the reduced pattern?

We prefer the reduced pattern look, We searched and searched for one that had a bunch of it...

I think it just adds another element to the granite look...I don't know, for some reason when you compair a solid Granite to a reduced pattern Granite, the Reduced Pattern one gets my vote....

Do people just breed a clutch of granites and have both reduced patterns and normals? Or is it like 2 separate bloodlines for reduced pattern and normal? Are the reduced patterns from selective breeding, like Sandfire beardies for example, or a single genetic het- or homozygous trait, like albinism? I dont know about granite genetics, sorry if its a noobish question.
I plan on a juvie female from Bob Clark, a few years after college. I would build a nice, big cage, not like the boring, stark cages a lot of people use. She would be used in educational shows, along with any other herps I find. She might even be used as a therapy animal, much like a dog or cat. There was a male green burm named Oliver, which did the same. Its from an old 'Living With Reptiles' article in REPTILES magazine. The old sulcata issue if anyone still has it. Maybe I'll do kids parties if I'm lucky! Cheers! Lol, this suddenly has me in a really good mood all of a sudden.

From what I understand, and I could be totally wrong (or new info has come up since I researched it) That the reduced patterns are pretty random, that they pop up in clutches, I have heard people trying to breed Reduced Pattern x Reduced Pattern, but I think its just a randome thing that pops up. I have seen some total granites hatch out along some with reduced patterns...Maybe someone who works and breeds them will chime in, but last I heard it was kinda a randome thing that just pops up.

Ours is just a pet, we are not going to breed Burmese Pythons, I agree though...The Granite is our favorite morph... Someday I would love to see the TPositve Albino in a Granite...NOW that would be my dream Granite...

Best of luck picking one out, We just love our "Titan"...

Maybe HighEndHerps (or dare I say... Bob Clark ) will chime in and clear this up. Titan looks great! I havent sen any big granites anywhere. Theyre all juvies, biggest I've seen was 5 feet or so.
T albino? As in caramel albino? Do they have those in burms yet? Id looooove to see some if they do. I know they have normal albino granites though, but they arent very pretty in my opinion. Looks off-white/yellowish all over, you cant see the spots unless they are still in the orange baby phase.

I don't know if you remember but awhile ago a canadian breeder named Corey Woods produced some killer reduced pattern granites, they where unreal looking. I think that was like 6 to 10 years ago and I think since then he now breeds ball pythons. I will never forget those reduced pattern granites though!

Hey Frank,
Here are a couple pics of my reduced pattern granite female that I bought directly from Corey. She was actually his holdback, but I ended up getting her when he got out of the burms, and doesn't have any of the Clark line in her. These pics are pretty old and she was about 116 lbs in December.

As for Corey's granite line they were completely unrelated to the line that Bob Clark had. Corey told me his line had more of the reduced patterns and rarely produced the fully pattern ones while Bob's line was sort of the opposite.

Thats pretty sick dude! If I could get one like that, I'd forget the normal granites entirely! It's the snakes with little on-and-off patches that I dont like, but that snake is different entirely! Very cool.

BenR79 Apr 04, 2007 03:23 PM

I've been doing good. I'm still on here quite a bit, I just rarely post. I've got some interesting projects going on with the burm right now. I'll send ya an e-mail and post some pics here when I get a chance.
