using sterilite containers as housing

dragontatu Mar 27, 2007 07:26 PM

I have heard and seen a few pics of people using tubs as a housing setup for snakes. May I ask some advice on how to set one up like that? I have always used glass aquariums with screen lids with plenty of success, but they tend to get expensive. I am seriously considering a blood python purchase soon. The one I have been following at the local petstore (the only thing there worth a damn, including the owner. lol. sorry) is exceptionally beautiful and is showing a very good tempermant as well. I would be either building my own cage later or investing in a nice display cage, but for the first year or so I would like to keep it in something rather inexpensive, as it will outgrow rather quick. So, some pics and a basic descript of how to setup a sterilite tub would be very helpful. Thanks.

Just use an approiate size container I think the bigest sterilite isnt really big enough for a full grown female but for a few years its ok. Just set it up like a tank some sort of bedding, mine are on paper towls, hide box, large bowl they can soak in, and a heat pad underneath on end, I drill a few 3/4 to 1 " holes in the top like every 3 inches around the perimeter and a few in the middle, you can do more or less depending on the humidity your getting, also the easy way I adjust the hunidity in all my racks and enclosures, is to simply move the water bowl closer or further from the heated end of the cage.
