Post brumation sheds...

Upscale Mar 27, 2007 09:02 PM

I cooled my snakes after each one shed, instead of just cooling on a certain date. Now they’ve been warmed back up since the last week of Feb, but no shed yet! I was hoping to have some action by the end of March, but so far nothing going. I had one male shed, no females. I’m thinking maybe I should have cooled them half way through a typical shed cycle instead of immediately after a shed. Any thoughts on timing the shed cycle to cooling? I know they’ve been feeding well and will probably shed in the next week, but it seems like it’s taking even longer than usual or something. Probably because I’m waiting for it... Looks like they’ll be breeding in April now, and I’m seeing guys with friggin eggs already!

All my males shed before my females except for one female that I do not believe is ovulating.

My females shed just within the last week or so. They awakened end of Feb as well.

Oh - as a note - one of my males and one of my females shed during brumation. Both of them have shed again.

I put all of my snakes down at the same time. And I have snakes that shed during brumation.

Keep in mind that shed cycles are not directly connected to ovulation cycles. Conveniently for us they usually happen to go with one another but they don't have to. Try putting your snakes together before the females shed, I have seen many successful copulations before the shed.
Cheers
