Black gunk on shed skin

styric Mar 28, 2007 03:26 AM

As I've posted before, my gray band has been under the weather. I stripped the tank down, disinfected everything, turned up the heat and soaked her daily for a few days. She finally shed but it has black gunk all over belly/head part of the shed skin. It also looked like a difficult one since 2 feet of the skin was balled up in one lump. There are no retained eyecaps or tail bits and her scales are clean.

I checked her over multiple times previously and noticed no mites or anything unusual on her beforehand..

She's now eating like a pig again and alot more active. She's also been putting the weight on she lost(since she cleaned me out of mice already and I had a dozen in stock).

Any ideas as to what the gunk is?

The snake probably crapped while shedding...

4 weeks after last meal? A bit unlikely though may be.

I have snakes that come out of hibernation, having not eaten for months and they poop a little before taking their first meal.. So it is most likely poop even after 2 weeks of no food.

So, my opinion is unless your snake is leaking tar.. it's poop..

If i can say "poop"
