LeNko Mar 28, 2007 06:55 AM

quick backround...

he hasnt been eating alot lately, couple crickets a day. He started shedding, leg first, the veil..tail started but didnt finish, along with body. then this morning i woke up and he was slouched over a branch ( pic 1 ). after he woke up he looked ok...but when i put my hand in the cage he didnt freak out like normal...just kinda sat there. I am taking him to the vet today just to get checked out. was kinda hoping maybe someone here might have some insite. thanks

also lately he really hasnt been gettin his colors...stays more brown/green...except in the morning he has a lil yellow/orange in him. Had him outside( in his cage ) yesterday and he got so dark brown after 30 mins, he looked black in color. it was 78 degrees and the sun was hot. I figured he would be lovin the sun....any ideas

The dark coloration while outside likely means that he was cool.

How is his behavior now?

well i decided to take him to the vet and just get him checked out. they said he was really dehydrated and has an infection in his kidneys. They have him on a food sup. since he wasnt eating. He has been back to the vet and is doing a lil better. should get the blood work back next week to know more about the infection. working on setting up a better method of giving him water. i was told in the begining that water wasnt a big deal with Veiled and im learning thats not the case.

Glad you decided to take him to the vet. He really didn't look well in the pictures, but I couldn't have told you why. His slightly sunken eye could have been from dehydration but it can also be caused by other things.

You said he has an infection in his kidneys...how did they determine this? Did they put him on antibiotics?

You said...."They have him on a food sup. since he wasnt eating"...what food supplement did they put him on?

You said..."He has been back to the vet and is doing a lil better. should get the blood work back next week to know more about the infection"...glad to hear he is showing improvement!

You said..."i was told in the begining that water wasnt a big deal with Veiled and im learning thats not the case"..too many people think this. Water is definitely important to them.

Hope he will soon be healthy again!

yeah they gave me a shots for him, need it every 3 days, i think 6 doses. Fortaz injection is what its called. they did blood work on him to find the infection. had to send some of it to California to be tested more...havent got those results back yet.

the food he is on is called Carnivore Care...gets 4ml a day by syringe...let me tell you how much he LOVES that lol. also give him 2ml of water each feeding. Got him to eat a couple Super worms this afternoon as well, so he is starting to eat on his own. Also today he started a shed so.. looks like he is showing signs of improvement, cant wait to get him healthy again.

anyone know of anyplace to get horned worms shipped?

thanks agian for all the help and concern

I think mullberryfarms.com carries horned worms.

Mulbery farms definitely ships hornworms, and my Veiled's also LOVE their silkworms, too. They absolutely adore them, so if he's a little fussy about eating at the moment, I strongly recommend silkworms.
