Once you get eggs thats where the fun starts. Good luck keep us posted.

I know, I've had two incubator failures in last two years. Gonna use the fish tank/heater one this year.
On another plus the other female that hasn't really ate much has just taken two chick heads so hopefully will kick her feeding into gear.

Coachwhip eggs like to mold. If you use vermiculite they are almost sure to mold. The eggs like it a little acid I use coconut husk at 82F. I also use a manditory nest box.

I have hatched quit a few coachwhip clutches. The hardest part is getting the babies to eat. I usually have to assist feed for a while. They have to eat very often too! I usually had success just puting a small rubbermaid inside of a 10 gallon tank lined with styrofoam. A heat lamp and temp monitor, keep them in the low to mid 80s. Usually hatch in about 55-75 days.
My nice Whips

Yep, getting the youngsters feeding is the toughest hurdle by far. Funny thing is, if and once they eat, they will eat anything it is the first meal that is a challenge.

Here is a pic.

Thanks Bill
The good news is that the other male and the old girl are together and thinking of it.
And the last girl has finally taken 2 chick heads today, so hopefully that will kick her into feeding again.
With luck I will have 3 sets of eggs this year, unless someone double clutches
If you throw a second male in the cage he should kick into gear. Pull one of the males out the other should breed.

Mike ..you've sold a couple of babies already!!
!!
Bill ...stunning photographs !!!
regards Paul
Mine are showing breeding behavior as well, not sure if they've actually done the deed yet, but they sure look interested
Sighthunter, could you go more in depth about how you go about treating the gravid females, specifics on the nest box, etc? Thanks,
Kevin
I USE ONE OF THE DRAWRS IN MY ANIMAL PLASTICS RACK. I GIVE HER ABOUT FIVE DAYS AFTER HER PRE EGG LAYING SHED AND PLACE HER IN A RACK. MY RACK HAS HEAT TAPE ON THE BACK SIDE. I KEEP THE SURFACE TEMPRATURE WHERE THE HEAT TAPE IS AROUND 88F. MOST GRAVID FEMALE SNAKES WILL KEEP THEIR BODY TEMP AT 88F. THE SUBSTRATE IS COCONUT SAME THE SUBSTRATE I HATCH EGGS IN. tHE GRAVID SNAKE WILL STAY COILED IN A SPOT SHE LIKES. A DAY OR TWO BEFORE SHE LAYS SHE WILL MOVE ABOUT. I HAVE GOTTEN GOOD AT GUESSING WHEN TO EXPECT EGGS.

Weirdly my old female laid her first clutch for me a week before she shed.
Testaceus I think I hate you almost as much as Bill....LOL
seriously though, I really do want some of those red/pink ones, though also want some easterns as well.
And Paul.. well the whips are onlyu just gonna be for sale if I get some out. I won't be asking much if anything really. If we have no luck finding a female for yours then I may well loan a female for next year assuming I get babies this year. Really needs to be more whips in the UK.
On another note, I'm thinking of putting my large whipsnakes coluber jugularis(though now changed but cant remember offhand)) together this year, neither ate much last year but this year they are starting to feed ok
Mike
Thanks Mike!...we should form our own U.K. Coachwhip society!!..LOL!!
However the 2 remaining coachwhips at Wharf sold quickly after I bought mine and the last 2 females at 'coast to coast' went just before I heard about them...so other people in the u.k.
have Coachwhips apart from just me and thee!!
Thankfully we have these guys on this forum to give us advice,
photo's...etc..
