Activity on this board is down, and....

I view that as a good thing. I visited for the first time in 4 years a few days ago, and was amazed at how few posts there were in a day. This board used to get many posts a day, and was very active. I take the decline as an indication that the general populace has finally come to the conclusion that these lizards in general DO NOT make good pets, and require huge expenditures of time and money to do it right. I haven't been in a pet shop for a long time, (other than Petsmart for dog and cat food)so I hope there are no more or at least fewer igs being sold as pets.

I became interested in iguanas in the mid 90's, and after much research, decided that it was wrong for me to obtain one as a pet. As luck would have it, a few years later,a neighbor's daughter had one, and they needed to get rid of it. My wife and I discussed it, and finally decided to make the longterm commitment to rescue this ig. so, in late 1998, we took Bug in, and he's still with us, living in a large enclosure that take up a large portion of our bathroom.. He's now close to ten years old, and has been a handful from the start. He's large, about 12-14 lbs, and VERY agressive. One bite to my left thumb when he was about 4 lbs taught me a lot. He could take my thumb off, now...

Anyway, the point of all this is, After ten years, I'm pleased to see that there is a decline in interest in these creatures, and, I hope, a corresponding decrease in imports...

the sales in this area are up!! nearly every pet store i go into, they have a heard of IGs in a little tiny cage for the (announcers voice) "low, low price of only 19.99$ you can have a pet you can't and won't be able to properly care for in 6 months"

Its depressing. We have 4 igs right now. I love them- one of my favorite lizards, which in this case is a good thing, since we get so many...

I think the board has slowed down b/c either people are becoming more educated as you said and not buying the animal they can't care for or people are going the other direction- buying and just not caring or bothing to ask for help.

I hope you're right

I too think sales may not be as out of control as they used to be, particularly since now there are far more "trendy" reptiles.

However, I too remember this board a looooong time ago as being hectic, chat-room included. So either iguana owners finally do their homework and take better care of their igs, or too many people think they know everything and dont bother asking for help.

I remember when people like Dr. Sprackland, M. Eguro, M. Kaplan, D. Bennett, St. Pierre used to frequent the various boards... it was cool.

I am seeing less iguanas sold. The shift has been to bearded dragons and we have taken a number of them in. I am seeing the problems of MBD with dragons.

The carnivals are still a very serious problem as they are using iguanas and rabbits as goldfish substitutes in the games.
We have made some progress in some areas.
