Green Iguana Color

neaustin Mar 28, 2007 05:44 PM

I have a 4 year old female green iguana and I have notice looking at pictures that she has been losing a lot of her green coloration over the last two months and is becoming more dark brown. I know its not due to diet because I have had her since a baby and she has always had a great diet. She also gets plenty of natural sun light and UV bult light since she has a cage out side most of the year. She recently laid eggs and I wanted to know if any of you guys had and product or recomendations to get her looking greenier again.

The color change may be stress related, or health related, or just age. Also, double-check your temperatures.

Dont know of any products that make igs 'greenier'.
Usually natural sunlight makes the colors really pop.

p.s. natural sunlight is known to make in-door-kept reptiles a bit "crazy" (i.e. hyper).

I agree with Iguana Joe, and also, have heard that the mercury vapor bulbs make colors brighter, and higher activity levels as well. Haven't tried one yet myself, but it seems to be a pretty common observation from the various people who have one. I will most likely be buying those when my bulbs need replaced in July.
