I think it vanished...

Not long ago I started looking around for a anybody working with Black Thayeri, only to find out that “back in the day” they were not a popular phase and fewer and fewer people were willing to work with them. Now just today I sent an email to Applegate thinking that if anybody had them he would. After all, he probably learned most of what we know about that animal for us. As it turns out he phased them out of his colony some time back and has not noticed them around lately with any of the other breeders either.

So after a very a couple of months of asking around I feel like I need to make a post out here to see if my fears are confirmed.

Is anybody still working with Black Thayeri, or is this species effectively extinct from the captive sector? I am just curious, and becoming a little worried that such a cool morph has been line bred out.

A friend of mine has a pair that will be ready to breed next year.. I already told him i will buy every baby he is willing to part with..

Also, about 6 months ago someone posted a lone male up for sale here on kingsnake.. I saw the ad within a half hour of it being posted and called the seller, but it was already sold..

So, they are out there but very tough to come by!

They are still around, but seeing as this is a little off topic email me and I will be glad to talk to you about them.

They are not as prevalent as they should be. One of the problems is that even breeding a black to a black, you often will not get a large majority of blacks in the clutch. There were two blacks in the clutch that is pictured and then all these other morphs, I guess that is why they call they variable kings. LOL

Hi,

I also do have a pair ready to go next year. My male has an odd whit scale on the snout, very neat looking and makes him easy to devide from the female.
