Memorial Weekend (May 25th - May 28th)

Nathan Wells Mar 28, 2007 09:58 PM

From May 25th through the 28th my wife and I will be making our traditional Memorial Weekend run to West Texas. We will be staying in Del Rio with my good friend Rob Klockman (rak) and plan on hunting throughout most of Val Verde County. We will be in a white Nissan Xterra so feel free to say hello when if get the chance. We always look forward to seeing our old friends and certainly enjoy meeting new ones as well. Anyone else got that itch yet?
Take care.

p.s. Troy, got any deer steaks in the freezer that need to be eaten?

Heading to BBNP and surrounding areas in a couple of weeks. The wife thinks we're going to look at wildflowers.

Be sure to look for that Grey and Orange flower that we all love so much...

are you making any runs to South Texas this year? I'm heading down there with the wife in a few weeks. I'll be hunting the usual Hebbronville area and praying for some nice weather. Hope to see you out and about this year.

On Feb 21st Dianna and I had our first child...

NATHANIAL TRUMAN OWENS

He and mom are doing great. But it also means that my trips to south and west are not as plentiful. Lance and I are planning on heading west around the 10th of june for a week. My wife said it was ok but you never know...

I hope everyone has some good luck this year.

Best Wishes,

Steven

Congrats Steven! I seem to remember hearing about the little new addition to the family. Only a matter of time until my wife wants one as well. I'll see you out in June then.
Take care,
Nathan

Oh yes...the "looking at wildflowers" routine. I have used that a few times on my wife while looking for lepidus on early mornings. She's smart and knows better...

That itch never gets scratched....I am afraid you guys have created another "lifer"!

Hey Todd,
I think the itch is more a disease than anything else. A good disease for sure. Hope to see you out this year.

It was that awesome year that the bridge was out and no traffic. She has eyes like a hawk, could see everything on the cut from 30 feet or better. We did not find anything to bring home, and she decided such trips were boring. She prefers places with either gambling or beaches..

Now I have a 4 year old daughter that is developing an interest in going out with me. I need a nice weekend trip to start her out with, maybe a run to Freer??

rak Mar 30, 2007 03:41 PM

I started my wife off with a freer trip, as I new there would be enough action to keep her going. Now she will go out and shine for a couple hours, or take weekend trips if she has her DVD player.

Next Year I am going to have to break in a new youngun. In fact I timed it in between hunting seasons, lol.

LBenton Mar 30, 2007 04:35 PM

... it would be a lot of fun to be able to take my daughter out and hunt for snakes. If I can get her interested in such trips then I would have no trouble making this part of the family vacation ritual.

Nathan- Sorry to say I'm planning a quick trip a bit earlier-May 17-20-to take advantage of the more favorable moon phase. But it's possible I'll be able to grab a quick trip that weekend as well....if so I'll be looking for you.

Nathan, feel free to come on by. The more the merrier. I have to work on Monday the 28th, though.

Offer free food out here and you may end up with a whole lot of guest. Now if you set up am open bar and little live music you will have so many people that there is bound to be a code violation... That would rock

Just a thought

Did someone mention food? LOL, hope to see a lot of y'all this year, and put this curse behind me, although I see it more as a "spell" than a curse, we should all be so cursed! What ever happened to the "where am I" game where you guys showed pics of various habitat and we all gave it our best shot? That was a terrific past time and gave others some spectacular views of cuts and scenery not to mention some oldy pics and beginnings of local legends!

I figure it's a good enough time as any. Still looking for my first alterna, bairdi, TX lepidus, etc. didn't even think of going, but with the extra day off, why the hell not. I drive an orange-copper 2006 Isuzu I-280 (exact same thing has a Chevy Colorado)
