ok i was considering just putting a ball python in a rubbermaid tub but then i got to thinking how would i heat it? wouldnt an underside heater melt it or what some one who keeps balls in plastic enclosures fill me in on how you heat yours thanx

You want to put it on a dimmer. The 12" type of flex watt is 21 watts per square foot and it will probably be too hot for your reptile. YOu need a dimmer from Lowe's which cost $5.
Usually UTH won't be hot enough to melt plastic, but the 12" type flexwatt can and will get super hot. I always use a dimmer with them.
I like the wider flexwatts because it can get as hot as you need it to (control with dimmer). I have found that some UTH don't get warm enough for some of my needs.
