Sexing similis

RedBeard92 Mar 29, 2007 10:12 AM

Hello,

Does anyone who works with alot of similis (maybe Manny?) have any idea what sex this Ctenosaura similis may be?

I've had the animal as a hatchling since early November of this year and had to separate it from a hatchling basilisk (that appears to be male) because it was chasing, bobbing, and tormenting it. I would guess male from behavior, but that has fooled me in the past.

Thanks! Rob

I would say male due to the crest forming (like Manny said) and also the dark black lines behind the eye. This is typical of males...although juvies have it too so it's hard to say. I agree with Manny though and think also a picture of the vent area would help a lot.

Hugs!

Looks like a male to me. Seems like a crest is beginning to appear. Can you get a Pic of the underside, base of the tail?

Thanks Manny, I appreciate your input. I'll try to get a photo.

almost deffinately male. u can tell by the big robust head. behavior is a good indicator, but not a sure thing, females can be teratorial and do the head bobbing too.
good luck
