How do you know when your female is grav

mike31 Mar 29, 2007 03:07 PM

I have a pair of westerns that have been breeding. The female keeps trying to buck the male off of her and is shaking her tail and hitting the wall of the enclosure. Is this normal breeding behavior? How do you know when the female is gravid? Will the male still show interest in the female if she's already gravid? How many days should I leave the male in with her? Sorry for all the questions but I breed boas and this is the first time I've tried colubrids.Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks mike bell

I would like to add to this question....

I am also a boa breeder....but think I finally have a gravid w. hog. If I get eggs, what temp do you all usually incubate w. hog eggs at?

Thanks,

Chris

I leave my pair together year round except when in brumation. and I also remove the male when it's about time for her to lay eggs. I usually notice my female is gravid b/c she doesn't want to eat. and she loves to eat. also the bottom half of her gets a lil swollen and you can actually feel eggs. hope this helps

Thanks for the help they are still trying to breed so I'm guessing she's not gravid yet.
