South Texas last night....

brhaco Mar 29, 2007 05:00 PM

Decided to take an early season road cruise in the Brush Country- came up with these two nice atrox, as well as checkered garters, a BIG Nerodia rhombifera, and DOR splendida and emoryi......Also saw giant centipedes, caracaras, and a coyote. Pretty good for three hours in March.

Best regards
Brad Chambers

Todd, we were cruising the ranch roads due east of cotulla-we did fine until the clouds cleared and the moon came out. Then the action seemed to dry up....Let us know if you see anything.

Only a few dor ribbons, no snakes moving along the beach access roads, these were from traffic late in the day. I hope to go out tomorrow night into Jim Wells county, waiting for the gentile April showers to bring some annulatta out.

Man, do those atrox put on a show, or what?!?

I was SUPPOSED to see my first ever live atrox a couple weeks ago in Corpus, but SOMEBODY checked on her one too many times, so she moved on...

We got TONS of rain up here in Austin today, and holding steady at around 70° and up for the past week or two.

DYING to know good places to road-cruise up here!

keep lippin' and you will curse yerself! Pretty soon you will be able to slide onto the freeway with all the dor's you're gonna encounter! No kiddin' Todd, hang in there, this rain is gonna cause an explosion of herps. Check out the new moon phase coming up for road cruisin' and go east or west of your present location. It is time for annulatta tonight with this rain, get on google earth, find a nearby creek on a F.M. road and be sure and have your batteries charged up! There are more snakes around you than you can shake a stick at. Cruise right after sundown for an hour then hit it hard around 11:00. You WILL see them. If you cruise them, they will come! Surprised you haven't run across any of the usual suspects:

Haha!

Just bustin' your cashews, man!

I just got back, from local cruisin, and found nothing but those big-ass toads everywhere!

LOTS of light being cast by the moon tonight, so will wait it out.

Probably not the best night to go out cruising for extended periods after drinkin all night, anyway...

DEFinitely be on the chilly side, 10-14 days will make it happen I bet! Man, you should see some copperheads soon as well, you are in the middle of them! I love seeing them but have to go north-northeast 90 miles to see some.
