I'm probably getting some brooksi this year.
My ideal would be a trio -
Female Hypo (or PB or lavender or ?? not amel)
Female Axanthic
Male normal double het for both from different breeder than females (so he's somewhat unrelated).
That would let me eventually produce some "normals" (that are 100% het one trait 50% het other trait) as well as some morphs (that are 50% het other trait).
If I find someone breeding really nice sulfurs that might be nice too but maybe not this year.
There's so much I want to work with but I need to remember not to expand too fast. I think it would be neat to work with Glossy snakes, Night snakes, Pituophis, as well as the Lampros.
I think with Pituophis I'm going to try and be patient and wait until I find really outstanding looking wild (locality) specimens, and not collect/buy any until then. I'd love some Cape Gophers though, I really would, but I think I'm just going to initially work with pacific gophers when I find something outstanding.
Glossy snakes - unless there is a different species not in california, unfortunately any work with them would have be non commercial, which can make it more difficult to offload the young - as well as difficult in obtaining breeding stock, and I hear it can be difficult to get them off of lizards and onto rodents. So I might decide to wait with them until laws are a bit more sane and allow easier offloading of captive bred young.
Night snakes - I see the Texas species in classifieds from time to time. I like the California kind but I really would rather not deal with native species laws for non commercial if I was to work with them.
Corn Snakes - I'm a fan of Okeetee. Normal Okeetee and amel Okeetee - both are outstanding. I've got a really nice '06 male Abbott line that will be "officially" mine in a few days (it isn't quite yet, my sig is a prophecy). I've also seen some sweet Miami phase but I don't think I'll be getting any anytime soon.
I tell ya - if my local pet store had carried Okeetee instead of the typical amel, anery, and normals - I probably would have several corns by now. Okeetee is a really nice phase.
Baja Blue Rock lizards would be sweet to work with too, but I think I want some more experience with other lizard species first. I'm currently only working with Southern Alligator lizards, I may try to work with western skinks (or ground skinks as they are non native) as feeders for stubborn lampros until they get switched. But neither of those species are particularly difficult so I'm not sure they "count" as far as lizard husbandry skills.
