Eggs.......

kellybee Mar 30, 2007 09:26 AM

Guys, noticed a dimple in one of my eggs a few days ago, so dripped a little water into the vermiculite, and left them alone. I figured it might be a slug as it was the squishy one of the 3 anyway.

Yesterday another one was looking like it was ready to collapse, so I lifted the egg container out to look closer, and realised it weighed nothing, the vermiculite was really dry !! I've wetted and squeezed some new vermiculite in a different tub, which i transferred the eggs into, the third one had dimples underneath, rather than on top when I lifted it out

They are kept in an aquarium incubator so there is SOME moisture in there, but does anyone know if this spells trouble, or are they salvageable?

Hey Kelly !

Well it's early yet, so just wait a while longer. If they are infertile they will cave in and you will know they are bad.

Why is the vermiculite so dry so fast??? Just curious

I have no idea, the two other tubs that were in there weren't dry !! With it being an aquarium incubator too, it isnt exactly lacking humidity

Im not sure how humid your incubator is, but when i had eggs i had to put them in a small tupperware container with the lid open just a pinch, to get the humidity high enough.

Good Luck,
Morgan

The hummidity wont be getting up through that canvas so well i dont think Kelly.
Swap it over for mesh and see what happens.

Also check the underside of the canvas, if there are droplets on the bottom of it then very little hummidity will be rising through it.
