"Colonies"

well, we get a lot of bearded dragons through the rescue. We've only had one for quite some time.. until yesterday. the one we have is in a 75 gal. tank, pleanty of room- he loves it.
yesterday- someone dumped a bearded dragon and a leopard gecko off at the back door of a vet clinic. they obviously came to me.
first I will say: I have pleanty of cages, thats not an issue.

I have heard and read of a lot of people that have more than one beardie in a cage. no biggie. I get the bright idea to put the 2 in together...... not so good. the one we've had, we use for education so he's very nice. He starts bobbing his head and running around, chasing the new one. then they switch. the original one is still bobbing but the new one is chasing. They kept biting eachother and hissing. I seperated them. They both are in 75 gal tanks, next to eachother and they're chasing eachother up and down the tank.....
is that normal. I don't plan on putting them back together- I've never kept anything in the same cage- don't need fights or BABIES!! I just have always seen more than one beardie in a cage. never done it myself...
do they always fight when they're together or was that something else?

You could have 2 males together and they will always fight. I also would say that the one you have had in his on tank for how long now then it could be very well a dominance issue. I would for sure keep them seperate and beardies don't do better in colonies if that is whati am getting from your title they are fine solitary animals.

It is never a good ideal to just dump a newly acquired animal into a cage with a healthy one, even if they got along perfectly. Your new animal could be carrying any number of diseases and parasites that could infect your healthy one and risk having both die.

Nor is it good to put dragons together who have not had a chance to 'meet' in neutral ground. Even females can be very territorial and aggressive towards each other, especially if normally housed separately. Also, it sounds like you didn't know what sex either of your dragons were, thus it could have easily have wound up with them mating and then you will have eggs to deal with. It only takes a male a minute to mate with a receptive female.

I tryed putting bot my dragons in the same cage and that failed, it was odd, they did not fight or where agressive but it seems my younger dragon was showing sighns os stress and allways stayed at the cold end of the cage even after i removed bob, bob was in hibernation mode so i moved him to a smaller cage, my little girl may also be a little boy and that may have been why she was stressed as well
