There is a tank of ribbon snakes at a local pet shop that is always labeled "eats crickets and worms". These snakes always look very malnurished even though there are always crickets in the cage. In my experience with thamnophis I've never seen or heard of them taking crickets or even mealworms. The closest was one grabbing a struggling cricket out of its water dish only to spit it out in disgust. To me it seems cruel to offer ribbon snakes crickets, especially when there are plenty of feeder goldfish available at the store (like in the rough green snake water dish). Should I risk sounding like a know it all and mention this to the owners?
