Plaster?

Shellabelle1980 Mar 30, 2007 04:43 PM

Has anyone tried using plaster as a substrate? I saw on a different leo forum some pretty great pictures of an enclosure someone did with using hardened plaster on the bottom that was painted to look like sand and then sealed with a water based sealant . . . it really looked fantastic, and I've been itching for a creative project lately . . . any experience with this out there?

I havn't used plaster, but if you are talking about the repticzone board, i've seen the enclosure you're talking about. My only concern would be with the way it distributes heat. You'd have to do some testing runs.

I have actually been wondering the same thing.I read the post but I couldnt get the pics to load.I did read that plaster once dry is nontoxic.I have this huge tub of plaster pwder and wanted to try something like putting the heat cable through it but need to talk to some electricians to find out if being encased in plaster would cause problems.
I got the impression from the one post that plaster spreads the heat nicely.I will definitly try and find out.If you find any info let me know..Cc

Um actaully i still spek with the girl that used the plaster setup and she said it is still working fine for her and she has no problems. You can use heat tape to heat it. Good luck!
