Grey band Intelligence

JL1981 Mar 30, 2007 08:04 PM

Has anyone noticed any behavior from their greybands that indicates intelligence. The greybands that I have kept always seemed to be intelligent. They always seemed to be more acutely aware of what was going on than other snakes I have had. My greybands will sit in the tank and watch me and everything else that is going on. My greyband Sofie will even watch tv from her tank (though I know it is most likely just the stimulating moving pictures).

Put down the bong and step away, this is a great topic for drug prevention. I hope the DEA isnt monitoring this forum haha.
My gray bands like to watch MICKEY MOUSE and the GEICO GECKO commercials, i think it may just be a feeding response, please help with this topic???????
Oh yea the male alterna do like the REAL SEX show on HBO, i think they are getting some type of breeding stimulation, i have noticed they will stare at the tv and wont eat while REAL SEX is on.
The females prefer to watch soap operas and they seem to sit there for hours, they seem to allways want to eat, i have noticed the females that sit there and do nothing are starting to get fat, any in put on the these TV stimulants would be appreciated.

I've had a few different snakes over the years, especially a corn snake that would come out and watch the TV always in the evening when we had it on. But all my snakes really like the stereo best, soft rock and roll! They all come out at the same time, and cruise to the Vibs! They acutely seem to move to the rhythm of the music.LOL

Are you serious? My snakes come out when I pound on their cages with a baseball bat as well. Maybe they are baseball fans?

If your music is driving your snakes out of their cages, possibly you should consider that it might be they don't like the intense vibrations and are trying to get away from them. Here's a test, put them on the floor in the room with the music and watch if they choose to stay in the room or whether they try to get away.

Hey Chris, I'm a great admire of your studies and photography! BUT, I must say, don't get your panties in a uproar, of course if you put any snake on the floor, it"s going to crawl away. I'm not blasting the music! the snakes are not trying to break out of their cages. They just crawl around real slow and peaceful. YOU TRY IT, AND BE THE JUDGE FOR YOURSELF!(any music)

tube snake boggie best of all, seems to stimulate that massive brain they have.
Hey here's a thought maybe the music being played by passing automobile traffic on the highway atracks them out on the road were they GET FREAKING RUN OVER BY CARS

JL1981 Apr 02, 2007 04:58 PM

Wow...thats entirely unnecessary. I was merely asking if people noticed any signs of intelligence in their pet snakes. I have heard from people that work with king cobras that they appear to be intelligent (at least for a reptile). I have also heard that various lizard species appear to have some intelligence. Just wondering if anyone had noticed any intelligence or interesting behavior amongst their gray banded kingsnakes.

I mentioned that my snake will stare at the screen when the tv is on. I specifically said that I know it is due to the movement of the pictures (being that snakes are ATTRACTED to visual stimuli), not the she enjoys or comprehends what is on. You comment afterward was entirely unnecessary. As for getting run over by cars, that is no evidence for or against intelligence (lots of intelligent animals get hit by cars).

At one time I had several display tanks set up in the living room, an adult male alterna, thayeri, getula, etc., they were all fascinated by the boob tube. Who knows why kingsnakes love TV hour, but they certainly seem to.

The jokers are just yankin' your chain.

my females pole dance......then the males stick pinkies in their cloaca......badda- bing.....

mexicanamak Apr 01, 2007 08:34 AM

Ok... I'm a fan of good humor and a joker myself so don't get me started! And I'll be honest and say I had several good laughs with the responses.

The guy is serious though, the crazy things love to lay back and take in a good flick. Pop in "Anaconda" and watch how big and bad your alterna get!

My Grey band will usually come out of his hidebox around the time that I usually feed him or clean his tank, but my corn snake has never really caught on to the routine. I've also noticed that if I put on a music concert film my grey band will follow along with the moshpits.
