There is no need to light the rack, balls like it dark, you should get enough light from the window. Make sure the enclosure is out of any direct sunlight btw.

Most people use heat tape or an under tank heat pad as their heat source... You need to hook it up to a thermostat or rheostat.

I saw your post below concerning melting rubbermaids... think of it this way, if you let the heat tape/pad get hot enough to melt plastic your going to cook your snake, that is why the thermostat/rheostat is so important.

ok so what temp should i set the thermostat/rheostat for it to not burn the plastic yet heat the snake enough oh and its usually 70-72 degrees in my house

You should have a localized hot spot of 90-95*f, which is not nearly hot enough to melt the rubbermaid.

Either use a thermostat or a rheostat in conjuction with a temp gun or indoor/outdoor thermometer with probe to keep an eye on the temps.

You can find a lamp dimmer switch at Lowes or Home Depot to use as a rheostat, and get a thermometer with probe from Walmart/Target for like $10-$15.

If you want to use a thermostat (better and more consistent) you will probably want to order one from online. One thermostat to stay away from is the Alife.

Good luck.
