Bullfrog Problems

ammong Mar 31, 2007 10:48 AM

I am raising up several albino bull frogs. one recently has sort of stroked out .she list hard to one side swims in circles and i find her floating upside down often. she is still fat so i guess shes eating ok but its either a nerve thing or somekind of brain damage. was going to put her down but she is ok otherwise. any ideas. the rest of cagemates are fine so she didn't get poisoned or toxied out??? please email at ammong@hotmail.com

You need a vet to check to make sure but this is not that uncommon in ranids that jump into the glass or the lid of the enclosure. Sometimes the damage is permanent.

This is why when keeping species like this they either need to be provided with sufficient hiding spots to prevent wild escape attempts or be kept in an enclosure that prevents them from getting enough speed to hit the side/top hard enough to cause damage.

You will need a vet to rule out other causes of these symptoms.
All because the frog looks fat does not mean that it is still eating. It can take days to weeks before sufficient weight loss becomes evident.
