Gravid Boa Timeline!

reptilicus81 Mar 31, 2007 12:48 PM

I have a dumerils who began copulating with a male in late November, then again in early February. She shed 1/6 and again 2/17. She is currently darkening up again for a shed! I have never bred boas, only ball pythons, so I am confused by all of her sheds, as prior to this she used to shed every 3-4 months! She is currently eating small meals every 3 weeks.

Did you see any signs of ovulation in the female at all? Boas will shed after they have ovulated, this is the shed most often used to try to determine when they are going to give birth. Unlike in pythons when the pre-lay shed is used.

If they were breeding in Feb, I doubt that she was already gravid. The 2-17 shed may have been her post ovulation shed, or the one she's going into now may be. It's hard to tell without seeing the ovulation, at least for me it is.

Haha! Thanks for trying to help with the little info provided! She had some pronounced swelling at the end of February, but I have a habit of seeing "ovulations" a bit too early (my brain plays tricks on me)... Here is are some pics:

Prior to the Jan. shed she was not showing any signs of swelling at all, so I agree that was likely just a standard shed.

Here she is today:
