HYBRIDS????

Bloodthrice Mar 31, 2007 02:28 PM

Just wondering if anyone has any PICS of blood hybrids.... This year I successfully bred my male Borneo to my female sumatran and successfully incubated only 4 uniquely different looking babies...one of which had one eye...(pics are on my cellcam..Ill try to post). I know this is shunned in the reptile community but I had to try it... Is it foolish to think no-one else has hybridized them also... Imagine what a Marbled Borneo X Malaysian would look like...if anyone has any pics or info could you please post them... Please dont hate...

Personally, I have nothing against Hybrids. There is evidence that it might be good for genetic diversity and it does happen in the wild. I do not however see the point in mixing the various short tailed pythons with eachother. They are all so subtly different that it seems like mixing them will just muddy them up. In my VERY unexpert opinion though, I do not think that the missing eye is a result of mixing. Probably a run of the mill birth defect that happened do to sub optimal conditions or a genetic defect that would have shown up in the line at some point regardless.

I bought a "purebred" Borneo from Brandon Lockett years ago...turned out to be a hybrid...likely Borneo x Malaysian. Here's a link that shows some photos:
