Signs of old age

rdperry5 Apr 01, 2007 02:39 PM

I've been keeping beardies for about 6 years now. The two that I have now, Lily & Jasmine, are about 6 years old to the best of my knowledge. I bought them when they were about 2 years old.

I was wondering if they start displaying changes that come with old age. Jasmine has sunken fat pads on her head for some time now. She has gained 100 grams since November, and her fecals are good. I feed them BD pellets and salad (no spinach). There lights and temps are good.

I'm planning on switching them to a more specialized vet soon to get a more thorough check-up. It's been very difficult finding a beardie vet around here.

Does anyone have experience with old age symptoms?
Thanks in advance.

First you could try this site for a reptile vet.

I've never had a dragon that age. But I was talking to Vickie Dachiu (Dachiu.com) this am and she has a 10 1/2 year old dragon so I asked about him. She said she cares for him the same as her other adults but only feeds him every other day since they are less active when the get older.

I know if you let them females especially can get obese so just cut back on their food a little. Hope this helps. Sorry i don't know more.

Thanks for asking around.

I took Jasmine and Lily to school yesterday and was able to get x-rays - Jasmine is developing eggs. This is the first time for her to develop eggs since I've owned her. I guess her body was preparing for that.

Awesome, did you intentionally breed her? Or does she justhave eggs? Cause they will not be fertile eggs.
