Morning Sunlight?????

easternlvrs10 Apr 01, 2007 03:43 PM

The location in my yard that I want to put my outdoor enclosure does not receive sunlight until 9:30 - 10 AM EST...is this too late for the boxies to start getting sun???

The other location I could place it does get sun earlier than that 8 - 8:30 AM EST. The one thing about this location is that my house's shadow starts moving as the sun moves and the enclosure would have no sun come 2 PM...

In the first location I mentioned where ther sun comes in late it stays until approx 5 PM.

Any suggestions, comments helpful...

Thanks
Melinda

You could use either location and it would be fine. If you use the first location that stays sunny until 5PM, make sure you have some shaded areas where they can get out of the direct sun. The second location that's sunny earlier, but shady by 2PM would actually be ideal. Boxies are usually out and about in the early morning sun before it gets too hot, then look for shade by afternoon anyway.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I guess the one flaw of the second location 8 AM sun - gone at 2 PM...is that we have run into this situatin before with another enclosure...

When I say the enclosure loses sun by 2 PM, I mean NO SUN, no dapples, no nothing it is DARK, from the shadow of the house covering it! And we were noticing that the turtles were sometimes burrowed in sleeping??? And we just thought that strange, as if their light cycle due to the darkness was screwed up!

Thanks

my enclosure's mostly shaded, the sun doesn't even hit our back yard until 9AM, the enclosure gets sun from about 10 AM til 3PM and it's only about 20%-30% sun, my adults do fine they know where to bask and when to do so, the hatchlings will be in 40-50% sun once it warms up enough for them to be out full time.
adults should adapt to a new enclosure within a week or two of being out there full time.
