Hoe big is a Lobster Roach compared to a Hissing Cockroach?

About 1/4 the size, and even less in the wieght.
I'll post a side by side photo to show you.

An Adult Hisser on the left, and an Adult Lobster Roach on the right.
That was just the first Hisser I snatched, they get a bit bigger! That one is about 2"!

I myself prefer deathheads. They get big, not as large as hissers but close. They reproduce fast and I don't have to worry about escapees.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Scott
Deaths heads are my favorite Roach species, I have bred 7 species in total.
I must say nothing beats the juicy inerds of a gut loaded Hissers!

Here in Florida you cannot have 'foreign' roaches (even though most species here now are introduced!). I would honestly panic if a few hissers got away and started breeding in my walls. Palmettos scare the $hit out of me and hissers are slightly bigger then them. Those are all yours, brother! Do you reach in and scoop a cup full out, or grab them individually with forceps? My skin is crawling.

MikesMonitors Apr 03, 2007 12:19 AM

Krusty
I used to live in Brevard county, Palmettos rule! Some of the best times I had was cleaning out my palm tree's and collecting them.
On the other hand "banana spiders" are pretty scarry.
Here in IL. a "banana spider" is a tiny yellow spider, the ones in FL. are more like huntsman spiders. Those creep me out Brother.

Krusty, do you realize that if society suffered some sort of socio-economic breakdown, that with the nutritional value of Mikes hissers, he wouldn't have to go out looting for grub or stealing his neighbors cats to sustain himself and his eight children for quite a while. Heh Heh Mmm Mmm good.

Oh and also maybe you could gut-load them with your favorite condiment prior to eating. A little katsup or better BBQ.

Roger
Having 8 children I'm waaaay ahead of you Brother.
A little red gravey and some pasta, the kids think they're eating scrimps!

I'll second that about the bannana spiders, mike...those things are ridiculous! I used to live on the Gulf Coast, and they would literally take over the woods near my house in the summer. I would see them eating huge dragon flies, and wouldn't be suprised at all to see them eating small birds! Did you ever notice how strong their webs are? I know where "spider-wire" fishing line gets it's name...haha

I'm glad someone asked for a size comparision on those roaches, I would like to set up a colony pretty soon, to hopefully cut down on crickets every month. Thanks for the helpful info, Lance

Lance
A funny story, when I first moved to FL. I went to this warehouse to buy some stuff for the house. I saw this great picture way up on the wall, told the guy "I'll take it".
He gets his ladder, grabs the picture and when he turned the backside to me(it was pure white) there was this HUGE "F"in spider. I could hear it running on the canvas like little drum beats! The guy say "ahh nothing to worry about, it's just a banana spider". That night, with no electic on all I could hear was the little drumming of his feet!
Mike
P.S. email me when your ready for Roaches.

Hahaha, I can hear the drum beats now...People that don't/haven't lived in hot-humid climates don't know what they're missing out on! Noone here knows what Im talking about when I mention those things, and people think garden spiders are big...haha
The worst is when you're hiking or biking and go through one of their webs. One time I acidentally went through a web while biking, and sure enough I had a 6" spider dangling a couple inches from my nose from my bike helmet's viser, needless to say I've never moved so fast in my life....haha

Also I'll probably be contacting you in a week or so about some roaches...still have a bit of researching to do however.

Cheers, Lance
