It struck me as I looked at some of the "mid-America" subspecies of milksnakes below, how much some of the Milksnake phase or intermediate Phase Thayeri (L. leonis now) resembled them. As I think the new DNA research is showing, the thayeri and some of the Milksnakes are closer related than people once realized.
