Original Sunglow Black Ratsnake

dewey Apr 01, 2007 11:10 PM

Here is a pic of the original Sunglow male black rat that Darin Bell used to start the sunny line. This guy came from a leucistic WC female that was gravid. He wasn't an F1, but that is as far back as the line can be traced. Another guy is working with these in MD, and he has also gotten them out of the leucistic line from that area. It is definitely an interesting morph.....it never seems to do what you think it will when you breed it to things.

Hope this helps those few of you that were discussing it a ways down in the threads. Good luck with your endeavors!!

Dewey

Now that's good to know. That was just the info I was looking for. Any info on the guy in MD working with these? This may be the source of the pair I just purchased at the Richmond, VA show.

Your snake came from original stock from Darin Bell. The guy you got yours from (Rick Krumrine) picked one up at a Pittsburgh show by accident (person had bought it from Darin a couple years prior and was looking to get rid of it...Rick bought it from the guy in the parking lot of the show.)He took it into the show and put it on his table. Darin happened to see it, asked where he got it, then proceeded to explain that he had let the first clutch of sunglows go to random people before he know what he had. He could trace a few to certain people, but he didn't know where the others went. This was one of them. Rick kept it, raised it up, bred it to various things. I talked to him about taking it to a WC normal, which is where yours came from, I think.
The guy in Md (Floyd Presley) got his from Darin as well, but Floyd has been working with this strain much more and in more depth.

I hope this helps ya a little bit more

Any websites for the people working with the strain?

Sean.

No website....they are both pretty tough to get a hold of unless you know them....sorry.
Why do you ask? You have other questions?

Not specifically. I've never been more then moderately curious about black rats but those sunglows looked neat.

Will those little peachy looking babies pictured in the earlier thread turn entirely brite red like the pic you posted here?

I assume the eyes are red and this is a form of amelanism correct?

Thanks,
Sean.

I love hearing about Floyd from random people online. He's such a great guy, and it's so awesome to hear his name coming out of peoples' mouths (or fingers) all across the country. I've known Floyd since I was about 12, and never knew he was such a well-known individual until about a year ago. It was definitely surprising to hear his name out of anyone else's mouth. Not such a stretch, considering what a great guy he really is, and the quality animals he puts out, though!

Dewey, I'm guessing you know Floyd personally. Which would make you from either Maryland, or the Pittsburgh area. I know himfrom the Pitt shows, and would love to meet more black rat fanatics in the area. Ever in the area?

Yea, Floyd is a great guy. I've known him for about 8 years now. He has taught me a great deal. I usually help him out at the Havre de Grace shows, but I originally met him in Pittsburgh. Igrew up in Ebensburg, Pa, but now live down around Baltimore. I rarely make it to the Pittsburgh show, but if you ever see someone helping him out, it's probably me. Maybe I'll see you around sometime.

Take care.

I was just curious about what you paid for your sunglows?

wisema2297 Apr 02, 2007 07:05 PM

I paid $50. It didn't seem to like too much especially since I knew when I saw the snakes that I wanted them. Do you know anything about wether or not they are a different form of amel in that they incompatible with the original form or are they just a different look of the same amel ( like the sunglow corns)?

dewey Apr 02, 2007 10:00 PM

Hard to say if they are compatible or not since there are two strains of amel in the black rat. These two are incompatible with each other, so I dunno how the sunny would affect them...
