Love Stains?

phiber_optikx Apr 01, 2007 11:31 PM

What does a "Love Stain" look like? I placed my corns together and had left for a day or two. When I came back there was a stain on the paper towel. It is the color of a urate but does not have the consistency. It actually looks more like someone spilled a drop of plaster on the towel and it dried there. I can take a picture if needed but it basically looks like plaster. Any advice? She did seem happy and was smiling. I think she may have been smoking a cigarette when I walked in too....

sounds like you might have success.
The ones that I have found have been kinda an off yellow color. I have seen them directly after mating, and have found them dry. There is usually not much of a stain. Nothing compared to when they deficate. Its all liquid, as well. One stain after it dried, reminded my of egg yolk. Have you ever seen egg yolk dry on a peice of paper? It gets kinda crusty. Thats the best way I can describe it. It is not always the exact same color either (in my experience). I am sure someone else has their 2 cents as well.
Pictures always help, to be sure, as you know.
I think the cigarrette would be a dead give away, though! lol
Congrats

Can sperm be dislodged when defecating? I was cleaning a fresh stool from one of my males cages and I grabbed one of his hides to moved it out of the way. I quickly realized that I had stuck my hand in something that looked exactly like semen on his hide. It was nowhere near his stool and looked exactly like semen. I have been pulling my hair out because they wont breed (or at least I haven't seen them..) and then there is some in his cage.... Maybe he is a "do it yourself-er.."

hey, are you possitive he is a male? I have had issuees with snakes others sexed for me, recently, turning out to be the opposite of what I was told. Thats what made me finally decide to start probing my own snakes.

He was sold to me as male. Also, I probed him myself and was pretty sure he was male. I would have had a positive answer but he decided to musk me about 9/10 of the way through. He doesn't like his tail being messed with. I could re-probe him but could it hurt him since it is the season? Also, he produced a sperm plug so I would think he is definitely a male.

You should see a HUGE difference in an adult males tail when compared to your female(if they ARE sexed correctly).
His should be really "bulgy" and thick after the cloaca compared to her abruptly tapering shorter tail!.

But you could gently probe it again if need be,....the probe should slide down a "mile" if it's a male. e.g.(1-1/4" to 1-3/8" on a 4 footer).....*vs a female(1/4" to 3/8"for female of similar size(as they have pheromone gland "pockets"

Also!, like you mentioned, check around inside his cage to make sure he doesn't have a "snakey" magazine stashed around somewhere(under waterbowl, or in hide box)!!!LOL.

seriously though,.... good luck!

That's EXACTLY what I do too!!!, I don't EVER walk away after buying a snake without sexing it myself,(popping, probing, whatever), I'll listen to what the seller has to say,....but I don't EVER go by what they say alone!, if they want me to buy it,.....they'll let me sex it!!LOL....there's just to much at stake to not be absolutely sure. Three years of wasted time is a big deal to me!LOL,...know what I mean!??

I totally agree. When you plan on breeding, having two of the same sex is a big deal. Especially when you do not find out for 2 or three years!
Can't trust anyone else but yourself. Heck, sometimes I can't trust myself, but at least I know then its an honest mistake! lol. I found you must learn to sex everything yourself. That way, if its a screw up, there is only you to blame. Can't trust anyone else but yourself. Heck, sometimes I can't trust myself, but at least I know then its an honest mistake! lol.
I am not saying that everyone out there is trying to scam you. I am sure there are people who make honest mistakes, but some just want to sell, no matter what and will tell you what you want to hear.

Sounds like it urinated, and the dried white "blob" is "uric acid" in all reality. uric acid is pure white, and it dries as hard as a rock.

There is also a small possibility that it could have bred, and some uric acid came out of her along with some semen. Like Misty said,...that's impossible to say without a good photo!

In any case, a hard beige/white blob is uric acid.
