Snake about to Shed??

ethibode Apr 02, 2007 07:50 AM

I am completely new to snakes and would like to throw out a dumb question for the board I have a male abino ruthven kingsnake (have had him 1 month) and he hasn't shed since I got him. He is usually bright Red, Cream, and white and now the Red has turned to Pink. Looks really cool but I'm just making sure this is early shedding stage and not something else. He's eating great- fuzzy every 6 days. The temps drop down to 74 on the cool side. Warm side is always 85.

BTW- I got to post a picture of him....

Thanks!

Eric

The eyes will cloud and change colour when going into shed.

On normal snakes, it will look milky blue.
On my albin cal king, they turn milky lavender.

Usually they clear up a day or two before the actual shed.

Thanks. He usually comes out every night and has been staying in his hide the past couple days...was starting to get nervous.

you should see the eye caps become cloudy or "milky" as well, then turn back to near perfect right before a shed. Sounds like a classic shed cycle beginning.
