bugs in feeders

ronald_durst Apr 02, 2007 10:35 PM

Hey, ya'll. Question. My nic has been soaking alot lately. I checked the water for mites and im finding what looks like mites. my second to last addition was an amazon (cb that i know of) but i never noticed anything. Then a few weeks ago i added a corn snake. I got it from a friend whom a few weeks before i got it said he had mite problems with it. Thing is that when i got it i forgot about it and i also forgot about quarintine. Yeah i messed up but that was then and this is now so i gotta do somethin. so yeah i gotta clean everything and kill all the bugs and eggs. But i had an idea. What if maybe they are coming from the feeders that im getting. I usually get live ones and kill them myself. Maybe they have some kind of mites themselves. What do ya'll think?

it's not impossible, but I highly doubt it, snake mites feed upon snakes, not rodents. Since you got a snake from someone who said it had a mite problem and didn't quarantine, you most likely brought mites into your collection thru this or some other snake you didn't quarantine, it happens, now you need to treat all your snakes and the environment for mites. Get rid of those pesky little vectors.

I made an error, snake mites have been known on rare occasions to feed on rodents, still, like I said, highly unlikely but not impossible. I suggest you blame your protocol and the fact the snake you recently got had a mite problem that you accidently forgot about.
