BabyAlbino/Leucistic Texas Rat..a few??

SSSs_R_US Apr 03, 2007 12:38 AM

Hi Folks...new here in the Rat Snake forum but I've frequently visited the site over the years..

Picked up a Leucy at the Indy Reptile show about 2 weeks ago. "Noodle" is his name and he is very sweet. Never tryed to bite at all, as gentle as any baby Corn/Kingsnake I’ve owned and is eating f/t pinkys like a little pig. I heard most of these things are nippy from the get go and kinda shyed away from buying one for a while. Glad I went ahead and bought one. He’s a bit different I guess... a late '06 and supposed to be Albino/Leucistic. Absolutely no pattern but not pure white. Kinda' a very light pink in color/ white eyes w/pink pupils. He does have a wee bit of the bulbous eye trait but not bad.
Question??? Will he turn pure white when he matures...or stay a light pink? His underside is white, nose and his lower lip is white...I’m just wondering if the light pink is just a baby trait....Also wondering if his eyes will turn blue in time....

Thanks so much...Art in Indy

he will turn white as he/she matures, also the eyes should stay red if they are red already albino/lucy.

Yeah,....Like Frank stated, it will get whiter with age, until it's pure white.
Also,..the reason most albinos look pink when they are young, is because their scales are so small, and thin, you can actually see their blood through the "opaque" clear scales. Same goes for their skull that you can see the blood through,..especially around the eye socket(orbital).

On baby lecistics, you can see the dark eyes through the skull as well,..even more so.

Thanks Frank and Doug....Glad to hear he will turn white...I think the wife hopes he will stay pink though!...lol. Noodle really is sweet and we both love him already. He's our youngest kid...lol. I'm OK with the eyes being pink I think it's kinda cool in fact.
Thanks again...

Even as adults, they turn pink a few days before the eyes grey over. I find that very interesting

That is interesting Thanks Steno
