White Flakes

dnice Apr 03, 2007 09:00 AM

I have 2 red-ear sliders in a 40-gallon tank. I recently purchased feeder goldfish and some were eaten but the rest died. Since then I have changed the water a few times but I am noticing white flakes in the tank. Any ideas what these white flakes may be?

It may be tiny pieces of skin if your sliders are growing and shedding. Where they have skin on their head, neck and legs, the skin will peel as they grow. If you look at them closely you will see it if they aren't still very small. I'd get a magnifying glass and make sure the flakes aren't moving, that's another problem. Could something you have in the tank be reacting to the water? Perhaps you have something in there that isn't meant to be underwater and it's breaking down. Just a few ideas for you to check out. Hope you find the problem.
