GATORS!!! O/T

Jeff Clark Apr 03, 2007 10:05 AM

The Gators made history last night. Yesterday I also picked up my "new" used car. I also am getting scheduled for my back surgery. Life is VERY good.
GO GATORS!!!

The car is a 2002 ZO6 Corvette. It has all of 9000 miles on it.

but now you need a chauffer. We could be droppin' gears in that bad boy while your mustache is blowing in the wind like that guy on the speed channel. I really like the Z06 wheels on there and if you plan on dippin' them in chrome Jeff- I promise your car will look at least twice as good for your girlfriend when your wife isn't around jk

On a more serious note Jeff, I got my results back from my mri on my neck/back today and I'm still waiting on my right shoulder results though but the doctor said something along the lines of ... I've seen your results and I have to tell you that even after therapy and any other treatment we can offer you the alternative with most probably be surgery on my neck/back (I'm sure about the shoulder) or maybe steroid injections. Things wrong- a few discs are out of alignment, mild case of arthritis (I'm 26 years OLD), degenerative wear not wreck related, and something really wrong with the neck. Well it damn near brought me to tears to hear the results but at least I know where I stand. Nice chatting Jeff and I love the color.

Bob,
...I think your MRI results are not as bad as you think. If you were to have gotten a report that said they could find nothing wrong and do nothing to correct your problem it would, at least in my opinion be much worse. As it is they see problems in your MRI films that can be corrected. I do understand that at 26 years of age it is a bummer to find out that you have arthritic changes in addition to your injuries. In my case I was patient with the delays that are inevitable with the medical/insurance system and also was very conservative in every decision along the way. I tried chiropractor treatment, inversion therapy, physical therapy, oral steroids, and steroid injections. All of those things helped to some extent but none of them have me to the point where I can do serious physical work or return to mountain hiking and sea kayaking. Now that I am finally getting ready for surgery I am glad that I may finally be able to get back to living life the way I want to. Steroid injections have a fairly high probability of success with problems (including the arthritis) like yours.
Good luck to you,
Jeff

....surgery is the last thing I would ever want and I would think that would have to be a last resort for me but I got some papers back from my MRI and they did it on my upper (cervical) and lower (lumbar) areas but the upper back only showed 3 out of 6 messed up here and my lumbar has 5 out of 6 disc with problems so that is 8 with problems. Out of curiosity how many did you have? The swelling in my back has never went down and this is six months later and that is crazy stuff.

Bob,
..I have serious bulging of L5-S1 and minor bulging in two discs above that. The L5-S1 disc is rubbing against my S1 nerve which is causing my problems. I am with you on not wanting to rush into surgery. That is why I have made very conservative choices all along the way giving everything else a chance to work. Now six months later I am faced with minor permanent nerve damage which could likely have been avoided if I had gone for surgery at the first. I work, or at least used to work as an orthopedic nurse. I have seen lots of good results from back surgery and plenty of bad ones also. It is always a tough choice. We pay for the choices we make in life. From what you describe your possible surgery will be more serious than mine likely involving fusions with metal hardware. Mine will be a lumbar laminectomy and will be done in day surgery.
..On a more serious note. I really do like the ZO6 wheels and they do look nice chromed on Camaros and older Corvettes but serious ZO6 collectors and racers (and there are a bunch of them on the internet) say chrome is bad because it adds a pound or two per wheel. The 2001 ZO6 came with polished forged alcoa rims in the same style as mine. From 2002 on they came with non cast made in China sourced by GM painted wheels except for some polished versions. Probably more than you ever wanted to know about C5 ZO6 Corvettes.
