so much for breeding easterns this year

wisema2297 Apr 03, 2007 03:11 PM

It's a good thing I was monitoring my easterns closely. My female who is a good bit larger than the male had his tail in her mouth about 15 minutes after introducing them. Are there any clues we can observe as to when she may be ready? They were both brumated and both have shed.

some people more talented than myself can palpate egg follicles in the female, and when those appear, it would be time to introduce a mate. you as a breeding facilitator (as you don't actually breed, hahaha) can do everything right and still not get anything. sometimes its just chemistry between individuals (snakes). in many of my former projects i would have a back up male or two pairs in case the primary plan did not go forward as planned. plan b often worked better than plan a.

well twitching is good tail slaps and constrictions are bad, my easterns typically go after second shed, but i have had many go after first shed, supervised daily introductions is also a good idea but its still early to be saying so much for breeding this year! relax have daily intros and feed them A L O T. also males will grab/bite the femmes to get ahold and hold them down(its kinda funny w/smaller males ) often this appears to be aggression anyway give'um some time they will come around good luck,,,,,,,,,,
