Full moon, S. Texas....

brhaco Apr 03, 2007 06:45 PM

Troy Wizmar and I made a run down to LaSalle County last night and hit a couple of ranch roads. The moon cooperated by staying behind thick cloud cover for the first hour after sunset. In that time we saw quite a bit of activity-5 atrox, 3 diamondback waters, about a dozen checkered garters, a DOR arid lands ribbon. We thought activity was very good, and were sure an annulata would soon make an appearance.

But then the moon came out.

We stayed another couple of hours, but only saw one atrox afterward. Needless to say, we're anxiously awaiting the new moon.

Here are pics of a couple of the atrox. By the way, out of a total of about 17 snakes, only two were juveniles.

Those are some nice pics. When you do find an annulata, you need to post them. I would love to be able to find Mexican Milks in their natural habitat. For years I've been wanting to plan a trip down the Rio and look for some. After breeding them for many years and later getting out of them, I have lately been thinking of getting back in!
Anyways, Those are two sweet snakes with some nice size.

Nice tally! I can't wait until everything is out in full force again here in AZ.
